Apprenticing Literacy in the Disciplines

The session provides a common understanding of disciplinary literacy and how it differs from past theories supporting literacy in the content areas. In addition, participants will become familiar with apprenticeship learning environments and how they support disciplinary literacy in the classroom. As part of this session, participants will engage as learners in a round of text-based work that helps to model instructional practices (strategies) for engaging students in complex texts and academically productive talk.
