Lesson Writing Workshop — Content Specific

Participants will learn how to develop literacy-rich, text-dependent lessons. Each session will focus on a different group of content areas: 1) English language arts/social studies, 2) science/technical disciplines. Participants will come prepared with 3-5 complex texts that can be used with an upcoming unit. During the session, participants will…

  • Examine informational or literary nonfiction texts for use in a future unit;

  • Assess texts for qualitative complexity and worthiness of study;

  • Review the components of text-dependent questions and culminating writing tasks; and

  • Develop a sequence of tasks, text-dependent questions, and a culminating writing task for a complex text and receive feedback on development.
